inDrive, a California-based super mobility app, has partnered with Maruti Suzuki Driving School (Machino) to organise a Safety Education event in Kolkata. The SafeDrive with inDrive campaign will educate drivers on how to ensure their passengers’ safety and comfort.

This is in addition to inDrive’s ongoing educational program for drivers, which reinforces their safety training and spans road safety and the safety of women, so that every choice users make with inDrive is safe and secure.

It also covers topics such as the prohibition of discrimination, ways to promote passengers’ comfort, and how to use all the safety features available should anyone need assistance during a trip (for example, the Shield icon, which allows the user to contact emergency services).

Pratip Mazumder, India Country Manager, inDrive explains: “inDrives’ safety training is a 360 program which provides drivers with timely communication tools and strategies to prevent cases of harassment or violence – among other things.

For example, data from our platform shows that women feel unsafe in a cab when the driver plays loud music, is unkempt, or drives at a high speed; they are also uncomfortable when the driver looks at them in the rearview mirror or pays them a compliment. So our SafeDrive with inDrive campaign also addresses these issues with our driver partners, to ensure that all our riders feel safe and comfortable.”

Pavit Nanda Anand, APAC Communications Lead, inDrive adds, “Through our safety training program, we aim to train all our driver partners. All those who complete the training will receive a badge and a certificate that they can keep in their vehicle.”

Alongside the SafeDrive campaign, inDrive strives to remain up-to-date with innovative technology to assist and protect all of its users. inDrive’s current safety features include:

• Driver verification – Document and photo-verification is a must for all the drivers.
• Choose your passenger – With inDrive, drivers can choose passengers based on their profiles, routes and price offers. (Passengers can choose drivers using similar criteria)
• Safety button – During a trip, tapping the Shield button in the inDrive app gives users access to tips for staying safe, with a full screen detailing each tip.
• The shield icon on the main screen allows users to quickly call the police or an ambulance in the event of an emergency.

inDrive has different technologies, from sharing a trip in progress to direct support – a whole security suite that has rolled over time in response to their users’ particular needs. This security suite is therefore specific to India, an important market to the company.
