In a remarkable celebration of resilience, recovery, and renewed life, Narayana Hospital, Howrah, organised Ashar Alo – A Ray of Hope, a special meet dedicated to gynaecologic cancer survivors. The event brought together survivors, leading oncologists, and caregivers to honour the extraordinary journeys of women who have battled and conquered cancer.
The event served as a platform for survivors to share their powerful stories, journeys marked by immense courage, medical breakthroughs, emotional battles, and ultimate triumph. It also created a vibrant space where hope was the dominant theme, reminding everyone that cancer may change life, but it does not define it.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kaustav Basu, Clinical Lead & Senior Consultant – Gynaecologic Oncology, Narayana Health Kolkata Cluster, said, “Ashar Alo is a beacon of hope. Today, we celebrate not just survival, but the vibrant life that follows after cancer treatment. Each survivor’s story is a testament to human strength, scientific progress, and the will to live fully.”
The programme featured insightful sessions on the evolution of gynaecologic oncology over the past decade, the importance of lifestyle modifications for survivors, and the emerging role of genetic testing in improving patient outcomes. The critical aspect of emotional and psychological healing post-treatment was emphasised by Dr Soumitra Datta, Senior Consultant and Head, Department of Palliative Care and Psycho Oncology, Tata Medical Centre Kolkata and Honorary Senior Research Fellow, University College of London.
Dr. Suman Mallik, Clinical Director & Senior Consultant – Radiation Oncology, Narayana Hospital, Howrah, remarked, “Healing is not just about the disease; it is about reclaiming life in every sense. Ashar Alo reflects our holistic approach — where science, compassion, and human connection come together.”
The event also paid homage to Rabindranath Tagore with a musical performance, adding an emotional and cultural dimension to the day’s proceedings. Survivors shared deeply personal reflections, offering hope and encouragement to others currently undergoing treatment.
Mr. Tapani Ghosh, Facility Director, Narayana Hospital, Howrah & Chunavati, added, “Ashar Alo is a celebration of our survivors’ incredible journeys. It also reaffirms our unwavering commitment to providing not just cutting-edge medical care but also emotional and psychological support to every patient who walks through our doors.” Narayana Hospital, Howrah, continues to lead from the front in providing comprehensive cancer care with a patient-centric approach, combining advanced clinical expertise with a compassionate healing environment.
