Eastern Metropolitan Club (EMC), in collaboration with TCI – TRI Coaching India, recently hosted Cannonball Swimathon, a premier event for adult swimmers, providing them the perfect opportunity to push their limits and test their swim times. The event, organized by TCI – TRI Coaching India, a reputed triathlon coaching team based in Gurugram, was designed to offer adult swimmers a chance to compete in an exciting and professionally managed event.
“At EMC, we are proud to support and co-organise events like the Cannonball Swimathon that not only promote fitness and community spirit but also give adult swimmers a rare opportunity to compete at a professional level,” said Mr Sanjeeb Ghosh, Secretary and Managing Director of Eastern Metropolitan Club.”
Jatin Arora, Ironman Coach, Founder of TCI and Race Director of Cannonball, said “Cannonball was conceived as there are hardly any swimming events for adults to race. We see so many adults swimming in clubs or apartments complexes – they can never imagine doing a race or swimming long distances. We also encourage young swimmers from 12 years upwards to encourage them to swim. In Gurugram, we had a 70 year old gentleman swim 10km – age is no bar to race. This year we decided to give more opportunities to swimmers and are holding the race in 3 cities – Kolkata, Jaipur and Gurugram.”.
Rachna Sharma, Swim Coach and Event Director, added “Having lived in Kolkata in 2004, I was amazed to find so many clubs and lakes to swim. Kolkata is truly the swimming capital of India and that was the reason we decided to hold this event in Kolkata and what better venue than the Olympic-size pool of the Eastern Metropolitan Club”.
First held in 2024 in Gurugram,- this year it was held in 3 cities – Kolkata, Jaipur and Gurugram, with Policy Bazaar as the title sponsor, suggesting the event’s growth as it became a key platform for swimmers to test their abilities. In Kolkata, where the event was held for the first time, took place at Eastern Metropolitan Club who were also the event’s co-organisers. The club’s 50m pool, designed to international standards, offered a high-level platform for swimmers to compete across multiple race categories ranging from 200m to 10km. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Debashish Kumar, Member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. The Cannonball Swimathon succeeded in being an exciting gathering of adult swimmers, and in promoting the joy and challenge of swimming as a competitive sport.
