HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company, one of India’s leading private sector insurers, has consistently invested in developing leaders across all levels of the organisation. Over time, this commitment has built strong programs for senior and mid-level talent, shaping a resilient leadership pipeline that drives growth and innovation. With the launch of ALPS (Accelerated Leadership Pathways for Success) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, HDFC ERGO is now strengthening this journey further to create depth in leadership pipeline, offering colleagues a fast-tracked pathway into larger responsibilities and accelerated growth.
The partnership was officially unveiled during a visit to the IIM Calcutta campus by Anuj Tyagi, MD & CEO of HDFC ERGO General Insurance and Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, Director of IIM Calcutta. Also present was Prof. R Rajesh Babu, Dean of Executive Education. ALPS has been envisioned as a career accelerator and leadership gateway for HDFC ERGO’s next generation of leaders. Developed after months of collaboration between the organisation and IIM Calcutta’s distinguished faculty, the program has been crafted with the intent of creating a future-ready leadership pipeline for India’s insurance sector.
Beyond the classroom, ALPS creates meaningful experiences that shape character and leadership maturity. The program culminates in a rare opportunity, entry into the 2027 batch of FUEL, HDFC ERGO’s flagship campus program. For the first time, internal colleagues will join this cohort, learning shoulder to shoulder with management trainees from India’s top business institutes. This convergence of internal experience and external talent makes ALPS a first-of-its-kind platform in the insurance industry.
Commenting on the launch, Anuj Tyagi, MD & CEO, HDFC ERGO General Insurance, said:
“Insurance in India stands at the cusp of extraordinary opportunity. While the industry is poised for growth, as an organisation, it is our responsibility that we create avenues for our people to also experience growth along with the industry. Through ALPS, we are accelerating the journeys of our colleagues in junior management cadre, equipping them to step into higher-order roles and shape the future of this sector. The program will empower leaders who expand access across BHARAT, strengthen last-mile connections, and inspire abundance in the way insurance secures aspirations.”
Speaking on the partnership, Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, Director of IIM Calcutta, added: “We believe that it is important to raise talent and not just in ready talent. Hence it is important to catch them young and raise them for leadership. ALPS is a unique talent development initiative by HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company. We are contributing our bit to ensure this proves to be profitable for both in terms of value it will generate. We welcome HDFC ERGO to this excellent collaboration. I hope that this initiative will become a case study for other organisations in the industry.”
As India’s insurance industry enters an era of rapid expansion, fuelled by digital transformation and the growing demand for inclusive financial solutions, ALPS represents a decisive step towards building leaders who are prepared to meet this opportunity. It nurtures junior colleagues into well-informed and visionary professionals who are equipped for the future and inspire greater trust among consumers. ALPS is more than a program, it is a leadership pathway that accelerates growth, elevates careers, and reimagines the future of insurance leadership in India.
