Manipal Hospitals Salt Lake Cluster successfully hosted an engaging and insightful session on “Digestive Wellness Redefined” today at its Broadway facility in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The occasion also marked the launch of a comprehensive book on digestive health, developed by the Departments of Gastroenterology at Manipal Hospital Broadway and Salt Lake.
The book serves as a practical and comprehensive guide addressing the rising burden of digestive disorders, covering key concerns, preventive strategies, advanced treatment options, and surgical interventions tailored to modern lifestyles.
The session witnessed participation from a distinguished panel of experts including Dr. Sujit Chaudhuri, Head of the Department – Medical Gastroenterology; Dr. Sudipta Ghosh, Senior Consultant – Gastroenterology, Dr. Sujoy Maitra, Senior Consultant – Gastroenterology; Dr. Debkumar Ray, Senior Consultant –Surgical Gastroenterology; Dr. Sanjoy Mandal, Senior Consultant – Surgical Gastroenterology; Dr. Arijit Singha Mahapatra, Consultant – Surgical Gastroenterology; Dr. Kinshuk Dhar, Senior Consultant – Medical Gastroenterology; Dr. Kushan Sengupta, Consultant – Gastroenterology and Dr. Abhishek Banerjee, Consultant – Gastroenterology.
The experts discussed the increasing prevalence of digestive health issues driven by sedentary lifestyles, irregular eating habits, high stress levels, and consumption of processed foods. Conditions such as acidity, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), fatty liver disease, gastrointestinal infections, and colorectal disorders are on the rise, often going undiagnosed until complications occur.
The session focused on early detection, the importance of timely medical intervention, lifestyle modifications, and advancements in minimally invasive and complex gastrointestinal surgeries. Attendees actively engaged with the specialists, gaining valuable insights into managing digestive health effectively.
Speaking at the session, Dr. Sujit Chaudhuri said, “Digestive disorders are increasingly prevalent today due to lifestyle changes and lack of awareness. Studies suggest that nearly 1 in 5 Indians suffer from some form of gastrointestinal issue, while conditions like fatty liver are now affecting almost 25–30% of the urban population. Many patients continue to ignore early symptoms like persistent acidity, bloating, or altered bowel habits, which can sometimes indicate serious underlying conditions. Through this initiative and our book ‘Digestive Wellness Redefined,’ we aim to simplify medical knowledge, promote early diagnosis, and educate people about both preventive care and advanced treatment options.”
The initiative reinforces Manipal Hospitals’ commitment to bringing world-class healthcare closer to the people of West Bengal, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for specialized gastroenterology care.
With the successful launch of “Digestive Wellness Redefined” and continued patient engagement initiatives, Manipal Hospitals aims to empower individuals with knowledge and access to expert care, enabling better digestive health outcomes for the community.
