Deepak Parekh-backed multi-specialty healthcare provider, Nephro Care India Limited (NCIL), has inaugurated its fifth renal care unit at Shyambazar in the northern fringes of the city to cater to the growing demand for advanced diagnostic and pharmacy support for kidney patients in the State. Plans are afoot to take the total number of renal care clinics to 22 by March 2026, of which nine units will be established across the various districts of the State.
The Shyambazar unit was inaugurated in the presence of Dr Sashi Panja, State Industries Minister and Minister, Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare, on Wednesday.
According to Dr Pratim Sengupta, senior nephrologist and Founder, MD & CEO, Nephro Care India, a significant number of Indians currently suffer from chronic kidney diseases and early diagnosis is crucial to ensure effective treatment. NCIL, which got listed on the NSE Emerge platform in July 2024, has been undertaking several initiatives with a view to combat the growing epidemic of kidney disease in India through prevention, early detection, and comprehensive renal care.

“At Nephro Care it is our constant endeavour to spread awareness about kidney health across the country to ensure prevention of the disease and create a robust network of kidney care units to provide a nurturing and comprehensive care to patients. The inauguration of the Shyambazar unit is a step in this direction. We intend to set up 300 comprehensive renal care clinics to cater to close to one million patients suffering from chronic kidney disease across the country in the next 10-15 years,” Dr Sengupta said.

Speaking at the inauguration of the unit, Dr Sashi Panja said, “Several lifestyle related ailments have been on the rise and such diseases tend to affect the kidney, eyes and other vital organs. There is a need for undertaking holistic treatment approach and I am hopeful that the newly inaugurated clinic of Nephro Care India will help provide complete renal care solution to patients. When it comes to healthcare, accessibility is an important thing and I hope the clinic will take measures to be able to cater to the needs of people.”

Kidney disease is a growing epidemic in India, with one in eleven individuals potentially at risk of renal failure. Diabetes and hypertension are the leading causes, contributing to over 30 per cent of chronic kidney cases. Painkiller abuse ranks third as a significant factor. The disease often progresses silently, with symptoms emerging only after significant kidney damage has occurred. India adds close to 2.5 lakh new patients every year to the pool of people requiring dialysis support due to advanced kidney failure. There are around seven crore patients suffering from various chronic kidney diseases.

NCIL offers a wide range of clinical and lifestyle solutions and renal insufficiency treatment to patients with the treatment framework covering the entire range of lifestyle, physiological and spiritual aspects of wellness.
With a view to make renal care more “accessible and affordable” to masses, the company is developing a prototype of remotely monitored AI-enabled Smart Haemodialysis Machine in collaboration with the National Institute of Technology, Silchar. Once ready, it is likely to bring down the cost of these machines by nearly 70-75 per cent to Rs 2 lakh from the current Rs 7.5-8 lakh.
