Cambridge University Press, a global leader in academic publishing, has entered a partnership with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Karnataka to provide students and researchers with a wider range of digital materials and scholarly content, fostering innovation and growth in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. This collaboration will provide over 3.5 Lakh students across 211 affiliated institutions in Karnataka with access to a collection of 58 essential eBooks. With Cambridge’s extensive database and expertise, VTU seeks to empower its academic community and promote research excellence.

This partnership aligns with Cambridge’s mission to address India’s growing demand for world-class international education and resources, providing students pursuing subjects such as Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), to name a few, with access to vital academic materials. The eBook collection, available under a perpetual access model, offers unlimited user access, full downloadability, and printability, maximising its utility for students and faculty.

Further, to drive visibility and article submissions, Cambridge has also launched a community for researchers which positions the publisher as a key knowledge partner for universities and institutions. Under this, researchers will be able to engage with the content under one umbrella to meet their requirements. The inaugural session was held in Bengaluru, on March 5, where around 100 researchers gathered to discuss the evolving role of research, significance of open access, and how this new researcher community will further create networking opportunities and lay down best practices for accessing resources.

Talking about the partnership, Mandy Hill, Managing Director of Academic Publishing, Cambridge University Press, said, “At Cambridge, we believe that having access to high-quality learning materials is essential to academic achievement. Our collaboration with VTU is part of our ongoing commitment for the region towards supporting Indian students with international resources to succeed in their chosen disciplines.”

The titles, including essential texts like Introduction to IoT by Misra, Mukherjee, and Roy, and Fundamentals of Wireless Communication by Tse and Viswanath, are directly aligned with VTU’s curriculum, ensuring relevance and supporting student excellence. These initiatives reflect the growing demand for digital academic resources, emphasising accessibility, affordability, and relevance for higher education institutions.

Arun Rajamani, Managing Director, Cambridge University Press & Assessment, South Asia, said, “Our partnership with VTU marks a pivotal advancement in our mission to expand access to quality academic resources across India. Through such partnerships, we aim to empower students in higher education. By providing access to such resources, we are also supporting the academic community who will have access to these books. Such collaborations align with our mission of ensuring that quality resources are made available to all learners regardless of background and location.”

This adds to Cambridge’s list of partnerships with eminent institutions such as Banaras Hindu University, University of Delhi, MAHE, and IITs, where eBooks and journals were made available in the recent years.

Cambridge’s broader vision to transform the education and research landscape in India is also exemplified through the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative by the Government of India. Cambridge is a key publisher in the ONOS initiative and is committed to democratising knowledge and building a strong national research ecosystem. A number of Cambridge’s prestigious journals, such as the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and British Journal of Nutrition, are made available to Indian universities through ONOS.
