EXPERIENCE “THE COASTAL BEST” AT TAJ BENGAL, KOLKATA : A KARAVALLI CULINARY JOURNEY WITH CHEF NAREN THIMMAIAH

The City of Joy’s iconic hotel Taj Bengal, Kolkata is happy to announce a culinary journey through the South West coast of India. Renowned chef Naren Thimmaiah has curated a menu that highlights the region’s vibrant flavours and fresh ingredients. Titled as “The Coastal Best”, it will be held from 26th to 27th June for Lunch only at Sonargaon.

Karavalli cuisine is known for its seafood, rice-based dishes, and use of coconut and spices. The cuisine is heavily influenced by the region’s proximity to the Arabian Sea and its diverse cultural heritage. It encompasses different styles from regions of Goa, Mangalore and Kerala and other coastal areas.

Chef Naren Thimmaiah from Vivanta Bengaluru, Residency Road has meticulously put together a unique compilation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies after widespread culinary journeys ranging from Bunts of Mangalore, Coorgs, Malayalees, Moplahs of Malabar and the Portuguese decedents of Goa. Chef Naren is set to delight guests with exceptional meals, using the wealth of local spices, red chillies, coconut, pepper, fresh fish, meats and vegetables unique to these coastal regions. In the endeavour to showcase the regional cuisine, he has dug deep into the regions, giving the rightful place to the food of certain communities like the Konkani Brahmins of Mangalore, Syrian Christians of Travancore or the Havyaka Brahmins of Vitla.

Guests can relish an array of delicacies like Allepey Fish Curry, Crab Milagu Fry, Denji Pulimunchi, Goan Prawn Curry, Moplah Meen Biryani,Pothi Choru, Tiger Prawn Roast, Scallops Sukka, Pachakkari Stew and much more. Chef Naren’s passion for Karavalli cuisine shines through in every dish, offering a unique and unforgettable dining experience.
