The official launch of the inspiring new book Touching Tomorrow – Miracles Do Happen will be held at the Press Club, Kolkata, on 22 January 2026. Authored jointly by Dr. Suparna Gangopadhyay, the Head of the Neurorehabilitation Department and Director of College of Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy at the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata and Dr. Lal Bhatia, PhD, a global thought leader and entrepreneur who emerged from a Stroke condition to redefine recovery and resilience, the book celebrates a journey that redefines human potential.

The Neurorehabilitation Team began with just six committed professionals and grew into a globally respected collective of seventy-five specialists. This book goes beyond being a record of Institutional growth; it is a powerful narrative of unity, perseverance, and unwavering dedication, where every patient’s progress stands as a testament to hope.

Mentored by Dr Gangopadhyay, the department was built on five enduring pillars — Clinical Care, Academic Excellence, Research Innovation, Extra-curricular Development, and Humanity. Thus, over the years, with the transformational methodology of infrastructural facilities and state of the art therapeutic techniques, the department stands as a centre where science meets empathy, drawing patients, learners, and collaborators from across continents. Extensive R&D, international collaborations and participation in academic forums worldwide have all contributed to the enhanced global Neurorehabilitation practices.

The book also highlights a vibrant ecosystem that has nurtured sports and extracurricular engagement — promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being for both patients and professionals. Above all, it celebrates humanity in care, where dignity, empathy, and compassion extend far beyond hospital walls. The patient success stories vividly documented in the book are not isolated triumphs, but the outcome of sustained teamwork, strong leadership, and a foundation built on perseverance, patience, and persistence.

At the heart of the book lies its defining truth and powerful tagline: “Miracles Do Happen.” These are not miracles of chance, but those forged through relentless effort, quiet sacrifice, midnight hours spent, and steadfast teamwork. Like gold refined by fire, these miracles emerge when dedication is tested and transformed by perseverance. Every patient who rises again becomes living proof that human endurance, guided by science and compassion, can rewrite destinies.

In attendance at the function will be a host of dignitaries from various walks of life to give credence to the book. Prof.(Dr.) R.P. Sengupta, OBE, the visionary behind the Institute of Neurosciences, will be the Chief Guest. The other celebrated individuals include M.K. Singh, IPS(Retd.); Bachi Karkaria, noted journalist and author; Arun Lal, humanitarian sportsperson; politician Abu Taher Khan and entrepreneur Dhiman Das. Dr. Lal Bhatia(PhD) will offer his insights and Dr. Gangopadhyay traced the birth of the book.

The media is cordially invited to attend the book launch and engage with the authors behind this inspiring work that continues to touch lives and shape the future of Neurorehabilitation.
