MRCCon 2026 Brings India’s Rehabilitation Experts Together as MRC Marks 27 Years of Excellence

The Medical Rehabilitation Center (MRC), a pioneer organisation for integrated in-patient and daycare rehabilitation delivery system in Eastern India, marked its 27th year of rehabilitation excellence in Kolkata with the inauguration of MRCCon 2026 in Kolkata.
The academic meet, brought together nearly 150–200 specialist doctors and medical professionals, including faculties, residents and PGTs, from across India. The meet represented diverse medical disciplines including Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), Neurology, Rheumatology, Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery.

The inauguration session was held in the esteemed presence of Dr. Madhuchanda Kar; Dr. M. M. Ghatak, Founder-in-Charge and Chief Consultant, Medical Rehabilitation Center; Satarupa Sanyal, Film Director and other distinguished members of the medical fraternity and the organising committee.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M. M. Ghatak, Founder Incharge & Chief Consultant, Medical Rehabilitation Center, said, “It gave me immense pleasure to welcome everyone as MRC proudly stepped into its 27th year of excellence in the rehabilitation of rheumatological and neuro-orthopaedic patients. MRCCon 2026 brought together renowned doctors and distinguished experts from across India and provided a valuable platform for sharing knowledge, discussing newer developments and strengthening the multidisciplinary approach to rehabilitation.”

The two-day programme commenced with a workshop on September 12 at the Medical Rehabilitation Center, Kolkata, followed by the main conference on September 13 at The Park Hotel, Kolkata.

The scientific programme featured updated insights, evidence-based discussions, interventional workshops, multispeciality panel discussions and presentations by eminent state and national faculty. The sessions addressed a wide spectrum of contemporary issues in rehabilitation medicine, reflecting the evolving role of multidisciplinary care.

The conference featured sessions on Medical Ethics in PMR, Rehab Surgery: A Less Told Story, AI and Robotics in Rehab, USG in Non-Traumatic Soft Tissue Pain: An Essential Tool in Rehab, and Medical Optimization in Neurorehabilitation: Modifiable Determinants of Functional Recovery.

The panel discussions explored key clinical concerns including Exercise in Inflammatory Arthritis: Friend or Foe? and Advanced Degenerative Spine Disorders: Surgery, Interventional Pain Procedures and Rehabilitation.
The later scientific sessions covered RFA in Practice of Physiatry, Stem Cell in Knee OA: A New Frontier in Regenerative Medicine?, and Osteoporosis Meets Osteosarcopenia: Building Stronger Bones and Muscles Together. The programme also examined Persistent Pain After Orthopaedic Surgery: Surgical Failure or Rehabilitation Opportunity?.

Further discussions focused on Sudden Cessation of Recovery Process in an In-Patient Set Up, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Other Neurodegenerative Disorders: Can Rehabilitation Modify Disease Impact?, and Neuro Rehab: A Futuristic View. The scientific programme concluded with a Valedictory Session, followed by a cultural programme and dinner.

The conference reflected MRC’s continued commitment to advancing rehabilitation through evidence-based care, clinical innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange. Over the past 25 years, the centre has provided comprehensive rehabilitation services to patients with neurological, orthopaedic and rheumatological conditions, chronic pain, spinal cord injuries, disabilities and geriatric ailments.
With MRCCon 2026, the Medical Rehabilitation Center brought together the medical community for a two-day exchange of knowledge and perspectives, highlighting newer developments in rehabilitation and reinforcing the importance of comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for patients.
