BAI Eastern (Kolkata) Centre Celebrates Engineers’ Day 2026, Felicitates Engineers for Contribution to Nation-Building

The Builders’ Association of India (BAI), Eastern (Kolkata) Centre celebrated Engineers’ Day 2026 today at the Lalit Great Eastern Kolkata, recognising the valuable contribution of engineers, contractors and professionals involved in the development of the country’s infrastructure.
The event was attended by Dr. Ajoy Kumar Podder, Hon’ble Minister, PWD & PHE; Shri Dilip Ghosh, Hon’ble Minister, Panchayat & Rural Development; and Papiya Adhikary, MLA, Tollygunge Constituency, Tathagata Roy’s.
Dr. Ajoy Kumar Podder, Hon’ble Minister, PWD & PHE, said, “Engineers are the backbone of infrastructure development and play an important role in translating the government’s vision into reality. The development of roads, bridges, public buildings, water supply systems and other essential infrastructure requires the expertise and commitment of engineers and contractors. The government is committed to working closely with the construction industry to address challenges and ensure timely and quality execution of projects.”
Shri Dilip Ghosh, Hon’ble Minister, Panchayat & Rural Development said, “Engineers and contractors have a very important role in building a modern and developed Bengal. Their contribution goes beyond construction, as they help create the infrastructure that supports communities, businesses and economic growth. It is important for the government and industry to work together, understand each other’s challenges and find solutions that support faster and sustainable development.”
A major highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of Executive Engineers, Chief Engineers and senior engineering officials from various government departments, including PWD, CPWD, Metro Rail and other infrastructure agencies. The felicitation recognised their dedicated service and contribution towards infrastructure development.
Addressing the gathering, Rajib Manna, Chairman, BAI Eastern (Kolkata) Centre, said, “Engineers and contractors play a crucial role in the country’s economic and infrastructure development. Engineers’ Day is an opportunity to recognise their hard work, dedication and contribution to society. As one of India’s oldest apex bodies representing the construction industry, BAI believes that the industry and the government must work together to create stronger infrastructure and support the nation’s growth. We remain committed to contributing to this journey through collaboration, constructive dialogue and practical solutions.”
The programme also featured an overview of BAI and its contribution to the construction and infrastructure sector by eminent members. The event also provided a platform to discuss challenges faced by contractors, including pending payments and other issues affecting the timely execution of infrastructure projects. BAI emphasised the need for constructive engagement between the government and the industry to resolve such issues and ensure that ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects progress smoothly.

Engineers’ Day was observed on September 15 to mark the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the iconic engineer, visionary, and statesman whose legacy continued to inspire generations. The event underscored BAI’s ongoing commitment to recognizing the vital role engineers had played in shaping the physical and economic fabric of the state and the nation.
The Engineers’ Day celebration reaffirmed BAI Eastern (Kolkata) Centre’s commitment to working closely with the government, engineers, contractors and other stakeholders towards strengthening infrastructure and contributing to the nation-building process.
