Brigadier Dr. Datta emphasized that UKR is a less invasive alternative to total knee replacement, suitable for patients with arthritis confined to a single compartment of the knee.
“Partial knee replacement offers significant advantages, including quicker recovery times, preservation of healthy knee tissue, and a more natural knee movement post-surgery,” stated Brigadier Dr. Datta. “Our goal is to empower patients with information so they can make informed decisions about their treatment options.”
He is attached to Narayana Hospital RN Tagore Hospital Mukundapur as Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Key Highlights from the Session:
• Less Invasive Procedure: UKR involves replacing only the damaged part of the knee, leading to smaller incisions and reduced trauma to healthy tissues.
• Faster Recovery: Patients often experience shorter hospital stays and quicker return to daily activities compared to total knee replacement. Improved Functionality: By preserving the unaffected compartments of the knee, UKR can result in better joint function and a more natural feeling knee Cost-Effective: Studies have shown that UKR can be more economical in the long term due to reduced hospital stays and faster rehabilitation.
Brigadier Dr. Datta also addressed common concerns regarding the longevity and success rates of UKR, noting that with proper patient selection and surgical expertise, outcomes are highly favourable.
