In a landmark move towards sustainable rural development, Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar, under the leadership of President Sanjay Bhalotia, has officially adopted Boynala Village, located near Kheadaha in Narendrapur. The formal announcement of this visionary initiative took place today in the esteemed presence of Shri Shekhar Mehta, Past Rotary International President (PRIP) , who expressed his heartfelt sentiments, stating, “This was a dream project I had always hoped to see come to life.”

The project launch was further dignified by the presence of Shri Purnendu Roy Chowdhury, District Governor Elect , who remarked, “This adoption marks a major milestone in social welfare and progress for those who truly deserve a better life. I am proud to be a part of this transformative journey.” Also in attendance was Shri Sanjay Bhalotia, former President of Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar.

Guided by the mission to build self-reliant, healthy, and educated rural communities, Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar is implementing a holistic development model focusing on healthcare, education, digital literacy, and women’s empowerment. Among the key highlights is the establishment of a fully equipped Computer Learning Center aimed at promoting digital literacy among school students and villagers, effectively bridging the digital divide. In the healthcare sector, both allopathic and homeopathic health centers have been set up to provide regular medical check-ups, diagnostics, and maternal care services, ensuring comprehensive well-being for the community.

Empowering women is another cornerstone of the initiative, with vocational training in tailoring, beauty therapy, and stitching being offered to young girls and women, enabling them to achieve financial independence. Additionally, Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar is extending support to local schools by upgrading infrastructure, supplying educational materials, and organizing awareness campaigns on hygiene, nutrition, and health.

This village adoption is more than a development initiative—it is a blueprint for rural transformation. Embodying Rotary’s core motto, “Service Above Self,” this project reflects how urban expertise and collective willpower can bring inclusive, community-led growth to life, setting a powerful precedent for rural empowerment in India.
