Dr. V. Narayanan, ISRO Chairman, Receives the Prestigious G P Birla Memorial Award

The G P Birla Archaeological Astronomical and Scientific Institute proudly announced that Dr. V. Narayanan, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary of the Department of Space, was conferred with the esteemed G P Birla Memorial Award at a special ceremony held today.
The G P Birla Memorial Award, formerly known as the Lifetime Achievement Award, is a tribute to the enduring legacy of Padma Bhushan Shri G P Birla, a visionary whose profound contributions to education, science and culture continue to inspire generations. This prestigious award, later renamed in his memory, recognizes outstanding achievements in science and technology, fostering a spirit of inquiry and innovation.
The felicitation of Dr. V. Narayanan was conducted by Smt. Nirmala Birla, the esteemed Chairperson of the G P Birla Archaeological Astronomical and Scientific Institute.
The G P Birla Memorial Award has a distinguished history, having been bestowed upon 32 Nobel Laureates, including the eminent Indian Nobel Laureate, Dr. Venkataraman Ramakrishnan. Other notable recipients include Prof. Jogesh Pati, a renowned theoretical physicist, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, former President of India and Dr. Kasthurirangan, former Chairman of ISRO and Secretary of Space. This illustrious list underscores the award’s significance in recognising global leaders in scientific advancement.
The G P Birla Archaeological Astronomical and Scientific Research Institute, Hyderabad, a beacon of scientific education and outreach has had the distinct honour of hosting numerous dignitaries over the years. Its halls have welcomed 32 Nobel Laureates, 1 President, 2 Vice Presidents, 3 Prime Ministers, many Governors and several other imminent personalities, reflecting its pivotal role in promoting scientific discourse and engagement.
As part of the ceremony, the chief guest, Dr. V. Narayanan Chairman ISRO, delivered the much-anticipated G P Birla Memorial Lecture. The lecture offered profound insights into the future of space exploration and India’s role in it. (Can we add a little more about the presentation made)
The event was further graced by the presence of Dr. Y. V. N. Krishnamurthy, a distinguished ISRO scientist and former Director of NRSC and Dr. Prakash Chauhan, a distinguished scientist and the Director of NRSC, who attended as Guests of Honour. Many other scientists, imminent personalities, and Directors of various institutions were also present at this prestigious felicitation event.
The G P Birla Memorial Award Ceremony took place at the Bhaskara Auditorium,
B M Birla Science Centre, Hyderabad, on July 25, 2025. The event proved to be a memorable occasion, celebrating scientific excellence and the enduring spirit of Shri G P Birla.
