Medella Karkinos Oncology Institute joined the global movement for breast cancer awareness by organizing a free Breast Cancer Screening Program and an Awareness Session under the “Pinktober-Awareness Saves Lives” initiative at its hospital premises. The month-long campaign emphasizes a vital message: Breast Cancer Awareness & Early Detection Saves Lives.

More than 100 people from various walks of life attended the screening camp and joined the awareness initiative. The screening program aimed to raise awareness about preventive measures, the importance of early detection, and the need for timely treatment to reduce the burden of cancer. It also encouraged women to undergo regular cancer screening, as early diagnosis plays a critical role in improving treatment outcomes and survival rates.

Dr. Akther Jawade, Director East, Karkinos Healthcare said, “Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women today, but the good news is that it is highly treatable when detected early. Advancements in medical science have made significant progress in improving survival rates and quality of life for patients. Early detection plays a vital role in the fight against breast cancers. If diagnosed at the right stage, many cases can be managed effectively with timely treatment. Awareness and regular screening are our best tools to save lives. Every woman should make breast self-examination and regular screening a priority.”

Dr. Akther Jawade added, “Through initiatives like free Cancer Screening Programs, our hospital continues to reach out to communities across different parts of West Bengal, spreading awareness on early cancer detection and accessible cancer care. The hospital’s expert oncologists, advanced diagnostic facilities and state-of-the-art technology ensure comprehensive treatment for patients. We remain committed to making quality cancer care available and accessible to all, and continue to lead initiatives that empower individuals with knowledge and encourage proactive health practices.”

Beyond hospital-based initiatives, Medella Karkinos Oncology Institute has been actively conducting awareness drives and cancer screening camps in rural and semi-urban areas of North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Nadia and neighboring districts. Timely detection through these camps has enabled many patients to begin treatment at an early stage, improving both survival and recovery.

Medella Karkinos Oncology Institute is located at 87F, BT Road, Kamarhati, Agarpara, Kolkata 700058.
