MedGala 2026, the annual fest of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC), Jadavpur University, was successfully held from 25th to 27th February 2026. The three-day festival celebrated media, culture, creativity, and student leadership with enthusiastic participation from students, alumni, artists, and media personalities.
A Platform for Creativity and Competition
The fest featured a wide range of events including quiz competitions, short film making, advertisement making, treasure hunt, dance, street play, photography contests, and open mic sessions. Students actively participated and showcased their storytelling, performance, and media production skills.
Tollywood Presence and Katakuti 2 Promotion
One of the biggest highlights of MedGala 2026 was the presence of Tollywood stars and the cast and crew of the upcoming web series Katakuti 2.
The event was graced by renowned actress Amrita Chattopadhyay, Subhrajeet Dutta, Alkaria Hashmi, Sree Bhattacharya, Rana Basu Thakur and Sayan. Many of them share a strong connection with Jadavpur University.
● Amrita Chattopadhyay completed her PG in Sociology from JU.
● Subhrajeet Dutta pursued his Master’s in Bengali from JU.
● Sayan is currently pursuing his postgraduate studies at JU.
● Alkaria Hashmi is a present student of the Film Studies department.
The official trailer of Katakuti 2 was screened during the fest. The cast shared their shooting experiences and interacted with the audience. Questions based on the trailer were asked to the audience, and winners received prizes along with premiere passes for the web series.
Musical Nights and Live Concerts
MedGala 2026 was filled with electrifying musical performances across all three days.
On the first day, the band Bilap delivered a vibrant live concert, setting the tone for the fest with their energetic performance and engaging stage presence.
The entertainment continued with a power-packed performance by the rock band Blueberry Cupcake, energising the crowd with their dynamic music.
The excitement further peaked during DJ Night, where DJ Meha took over the console and created an electrifying ambience with superhit dance tracks. Students of JU JMC danced their hearts out, turning the campus into a lively celebration of youth and music.
On the third and final day, singers Debayan Banerjee and Sreejita presented a special live concert. Their soulful and energetic performance brought MedGala 2026 to a grand musical conclusion.
Panel Discussion: Culture in the Digital Age
The final day also witnessed an insightful panel discussion on the topic:
“Definition of Culture in the Age of Clicks: What is Prevalent vs What is Sellable.”
The distinguished panelists included Joyabrata Das, Director of Movie Academy of Fine Arts; Anuradha Mukherjee from Academy of Fine Arts; and eminent journalist and filmmaker Rhitobrata Bhattacharya.
The session was moderated by Sayan Mondal, a postgraduate student of the JMC department and one of the chief organisers of MedGala 2026.
The panelists shared valuable insights into how culture is shaped and commercialised in today’s digital era, making the session both informative and engaging.

Sayan Mondal, one of the chief organisers, said:
“It has been a very challenging yet enriching experience for all of us to organise this fest. From marketing to PR, event management to coordination — we learned valuable lessons at every step.”
Mayukh Bhattacharya added:
“We learned teamwork. Though we had different responsibilities, we worked together as one unit. These memories and lessons will stay with us forever.”
Tirthyam Debnath expressed gratitude:
