What is a giant PET bottle doing on the premises of a hospital?
Well, on World Environment Day, Woodlands Hospital has proudly partnered with the CII West Bengal State Council and Magpet Polymers Pvt Ltd and launched an innovative environmental sustainability initiative. The installation of the advanced, sensor-based SmartReBins on the hospital premises marks a significant step toward making healthcare institutions in Kolkata plastic-neutral zones.
These SmartReBins, designed as PET bottle-shaped recycling units, feature geo-tagging and sophisticated sensors that signal for timely waste collection once full. Collected plastic bottles are then transformed by Magpet Polymers into high-quality recycled materials, promoting a circular economy and reducing landfill waste.
Dignitaries, including Mr Debashis Dutta, Chairman of CII West Bengal State Council, actively supported the initiative. He said, “At CII, we believe that sustainability begins with awareness and continues through decisive action. This initiative on World Environment Day is crucial in engaging industry stakeholders and society towards practical, green practices.”
Reaffirming Woodlands’ dedication, Mr Rupak Barua, Vice Chairman, CII West Bengal State Council and MD & CEO of Woodlands Hospital, added, “Sustainability is not merely an event but a continuous journey. Today’s launch aims to inspire and equip our community with the means to practice environmentally responsible behaviors consistently — both professionally and personally.”
Woodlands Hospital remains committed to being an environmental steward, encouraging incremental but impactful actions to build a sustainable future for our community and planet.
