Author Sarbani Ganguly, who began her creative journey as a child artist with All India Radio, continues to enchant audiences with her deep literary sensibility and emotional storytelling. Having worked alongside luminaries such as Partho Ghosh and Gauri Ghosh, and lent her voice to radio programmes based on the works of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay and Rabindranath Thakur, Sarbani’s early artistic experiences laid the foundation for her evocative narrative voice.

A student of History, Sarbani draws literary inspiration from Ashapurna Devi, whose influence reflects in her nuanced portrayal of social realities and the emotional landscapes of women. Her short stories, published in various magazines over the years, have been appreciated for their heartfelt depth and authenticity.

Her latest book, “Album,” presents four moving fictional stories that explore the many shades of womanhood across both traditional and modern worlds. Each story delves into the inner struggles of identity, love, and self-realization, while portraying how family and memory shape a woman’s emotional journey.

The collection includes:

Prothom Jiboner Bhalobasha – The emotional odyssey of Tomosha, a woman who experiences love in three defining phases of her life. Her story of innocence, strength, and rediscovery mirrors the timeless journey of every woman. The story is soon being adapted into a feature film titled “Naina.”

Album – The haunting tale of Samantha Rodrigues, whose love story began a century ago during a pandemic. Through themes of time, memory, and transcendence, the story explores how true love endures beyond eras and even mortality.

Thikana – A tender narrative set in the misty hills, where Sanjukta and a soldier are bound by a lost address and unfulfilled promises. The story captures the quiet ache of longing and the beauty of love that survives only in remembrance.

1960 – Set in old Kolkata, this story follows Dr. Nikumbha Sarkar, a physician whose life intertwines with mysterious, miraculous events that blur the line between science and faith. Through its nostalgic setting, the story evokes the soulful essence of an era when miracles still felt possible.

Through Album, Sarbani Ganguly brings to life stories that are at once personal and universal — echoing the strength, vulnerability, and layered reality of women navigating love, identity, and the passage of time.
