ICC & Eurobank’s First Business Forum (India – Greece – Cyprus)

The 1st India–Greece–Cyprus Business Forum was held in Athens, co-organized by Eurobank and the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event marked the official launch of the India-Greece-Cyprus (IGC) Business Investment Council and brought together 30 business leaders from Greece and India, aiming to promote cross-border trade, investment, and economic cooperation. The Forum aimed to further strengthen cooperation and enhance powerful strategic ties between India – Greece and Cyprus, in a context that highlights common economic prospects and promotes business growth.

Held at the National Art Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum, the forum focused on sectors including infrastructure, tourism, shipping, startups, technology, food and beverage, and financial services. Business leaders from Indian companies already operating in Greece and Cyprus, or seeking to enter these markets, joined Greek counterparts to explore mutual growth opportunities.

Greece’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tasos Chatzivasileiou, in his address, stated: “The official launch of the IGC Business & Investment Council signifies the beginning of a new era of collaboration between Greek, Cypriot, and Indian enterprises. It lays the foundation for us to join forces and enhance trade and business ties. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ visit to India in February 2024 marked a significant milestone. I see today’s launch as part of a broader journey that began in India.”

Eurobank CEO Fokion Karavias highlighted the strategic role of the forum and the bank’s commitment to international market connectivity. “The establishment of the India–Greece–Cyprus Business Council contributes to forging strong business ties among the three countries, during a period of rapid economic and geopolitical developments. Greece and Cyprus serve as natural gateways for India into Europe, and Eurobank is committed to supporting that transition,” he said. He also announced the planned opening of Eurobank’s representative office in Mumbai within 2025, and the signing of a memorandum for the implementation of India’s UPI digital payment system in Greece.

Two panel discussions were held during the forum. The first addressed the vision and strategy of the IGC Council, while the second focused on current business operations and investment experiences. Participants included leaders from ICC, SEV, Enterprise Greece, Fairfax Digital, LTIMindtree, GMR Airports, and Coffee Island, among others.

A second forum will follow in Limassol, Cyprus, on May 16, 2025, further expanding trilateral economic engagement under the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
