A 31-year-old woman was presented with history of persistent abdominal pain for months together. She had consulted and underwent treatment elsewhere but her condition did not improve. She consulted Dr. Pranoy Gupta, Consultant GI Surgeon, at Narayana Hospital, Barasat, and was diagnosed with a rare congenital condition affecting the bile duct. In this condition there is an abnormal swelling in the bile duct, which carries bile from the liver to the small intestine. A rare Type 1c Choledochal Cyst, the patient underwent an advanced surgical procedure, during which the cyst was successfully removed from the bile duct and reconstruction of the bile drainage system was successfully performed.
