A 31-year-old woman was presented with history of persistent abdominal pain for months together. She had consulted and underwent treatment elsewhere but her condition did not improve. She consulted Dr. Pranoy Gupta, Consultant GI Surgeon, at Narayana Hospital, Barasat, and was diagnosed with a rare congenital condition affecting the bile duct. In this condition there is an abnormal swelling in the bile duct, which carries bile from the liver to the small intestine. A rare Type 1c Choledochal Cyst, the patient underwent an advanced surgical procedure, during which the cyst was successfully removed from the bile duct and reconstruction of the bile drainage system was successfully performed. Post surgery the patient had a successful recovery, and she is completely cured now.
The patient has returned to her normal life, and expressed her deep gratitude for proper diagnosis and her recovery to Dr. Pranoy Gupta and his team, in her message she expressed “I was suffering from severe pain abdomen for months, and I took treatment but I did not get relief. I lived with the discomfort, not knowing what was wrong.” she said. “I’m truly grateful to Dr. Gupta and the team at Narayana Hospital, Barasat. ” she added.
Equally excited about the outcome was Dr. Gupta stated that “The patient came with long history of pain abdomen, after careful examination, and going with patients past medical records, she was advised to undergo MRCP. Our team of senior radiologists accurately diagnosed the clinical condition using advanced reconstruction imaging, and underwent Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy, a surgical approach by which we successfully treated the her.
