On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, healthcare experts are highlighting the growing burden of liver disorders in India and the need for greater awareness about protecting liver health through simple daily lifestyle choices. Often called the body’s natural detoxification center, the liver performs more than 500 vital functions, including digestion, metabolism, immunity, and removal of toxins. Yet, liver health remains one of the most neglected aspects of overall wellness.

According to health experts, modern lifestyles have significantly increased the risk of liver-related issues. Irregular eating habits, excessive consumption of processed foods, sedentary routines, alcohol intake, self-medication, environmental pollutants, and increasing metabolic disorders can place an undue burden on the liver. What makes liver disease particularly challenging is that early signs are often subtle and may go unnoticed for years.

Speaking on holistic liver care, Dr. Preeti Chhabra, Senior Ayurvedic Consultant, noted, “Along with healthy lifestyle practices, individuals may consider evidence-based herbal formulations that support normal liver function. Products such as Dabur Hepano, developed using time-tested Ayurvedic ingredients, can be used as part of a broader approach toward maintaining liver wellness. However, no supplement can replace the importance of a healthy diet, physical activity, and regular medical guidance.”

Experts recommend a proactive approach to liver care by adopting simple yet effective daily habits, including consuming a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and natural foods, maintaining a healthy body weight, staying physically active, avoiding unnecessary medication and self-prescribed drugs, limiting alcohol consumption, practicing good hygiene, getting vaccinated against hepatitis where recommended, and undergoing regular health check-ups, particularly for individuals with diabetes, obesity, or a family history of liver disease. These preventive measures can play a significant role in supporting long-term liver health and overall well-being.

“Many people associate liver problems only with alcohol consumption, but the reality is much broader. Fatty liver disease, metabolic disorders, viral infections, poor dietary habits, and chronic stress are all contributing to the rising incidence of liver dysfunction,” said Dr. Preeti Chhabra, Senior Ayurvedic Consultant.

“Prevention remains the most effective strategy. Small lifestyle changes adopted consistently can significantly improve liver health and overall well-being,” added Dr. Preeti Chhabra.

As awareness around preventive healthcare continues to grow, healthcare professionals are also encouraging individuals to consider natural, liver-supportive approaches as part of their wellness journey.

This World Hepatitis Day, experts reiterate a simple message: Healthy Liver, Healthy Life. The journey to better liver health starts with everyday choices.
