Saptarshi Rout, a well-known musician and author, has just released his latest book titled “Hoa Na Hoa Gaan” under the banner of Saptarshi Prakashan. The book launch event was graced by notable personalities including Singer-Composer Ranjan Prasad, and Director Debasish Sen Sharma.
“Hoa Na Hoa Gaan” invites readers on a delightful trip through the lively streets of South Kolkata during the vibrant eighties and nineties. Saptarshi’s love for poetry began during his school days at Ballygunj Government School and blossomed into a musical journey at Jadavpur University, where he joined various bands.
After taking a break due to work commitments, Saptarshi rediscovered his creative side while working at a big consulting company. In 2014, his talents shone through in the album “Shikar,” introduced by Sahana-Symantak-Gorky, marking the start of a decade filled with prolific songwriting.
“Hoa Na Hoa Gaan” unravels the untold stories behind Saptarshi’s compositions, exploring themes of heartbreak, fractured homes, and the complexities of love against a backdrop of political turmoil. The book, illustrated by Hiran Mitra, captures Saptarshi’s artistic resurgence, showcasing not only the melodies that found expression but also the numerous verses that waited patiently in the shadows. It’s a tale of rediscovery, creativity, and the enduring power of music.
